If your hair is thinning and you are looking for hair loss solutions, turn to someone you can trust — the Birmingham, Alabama Hair Transplant Surgeons at Hedden & Gunn Plastic Surgery. Our hair restoration center is built on the principle of providing quality service to patients with hair loss. Using the most advanced medical technology available, the goal of our physicians and experienced staff is to help patients design a solution to restore their self-image with a natural hairline and increased density while providing a pleasant overall experience.

Hair Transplants

The surgeons at our Alabama Hair Transplant clinic restore growing hair to balding or thinning areas with virutally undetectable results. With Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), today's gold standard for Hair Transplants, hair follicles are harvested from donor areas at the back and sides of the head where most people have a plentiful supply of hair. Using a combination of artistry and surigcal skills, the transplanted hair follicles are carefully positioned so that they will grow at a natural angle and direction.

Scalp Expansion

Scalp expansion is a procedure where hair-bearing skin on the scalp is stretched and then surgically advanced to cover the bald area. To begin the scalp expansion process, tissue expanders are inserted and then gradually filled with saline solution over a period of weeks or months. The bald spot is then excised and the stretched skin advanced and sutured into place. Scalp expansion is often used to restore hair loss caused by injury or illness.

Scalp Reduction

Scalp reduction surgically reduces the size of balding areas by stretching flaps of hair-bearing skin upward from the sides and back of the head. During the procedure, the bald area is excised and skin flaps are created, stretched and closed with sutures. The pattern in which the bald skin is removed is determined based on the amount of hair loss, the size of the bald area and other factors. Scalp reduction is often used to reduce the size of areas requiring hair transplants.

Finasteride

Finasteride is a prescription medication taken orally to treat male pattern baldness. The drug has shown best results in regrowing hair and inhibiting hair loss in men in the early to moderate stages of balding on the top of the scalp. Finasteride works by decreasing levels of dihydrotestosterone, a byproduct of testosterone linked with pattern hair loss in men. Results are usually seen in about 3 months, but Finasteride is not effective for all individuals.

HairMax LaserComb

The HairMax LaserComb is a very convenient treatment for hair loss. This medical device for hair restoration uses lasers to improve hair quality, restore hair to a normal growth pattern and prevent further hair loss. The HairMax LaserComb stimulates hair follicles to reverse miniaturization — small, fine hairs return to healthy, normal-sized hairs. This laser energy also stimulates and restores the productivity of dormant hair follicles.

Sunetics Laser Hair Brush

The Sunetics Laser Hair Brush promotes hair growth using low-level laser energy applied with a brush-like instrument that can be used at home. The low-level laser energy stimulates miniaturized hair follicles, encouraging them to return to their normal size and again produce thick, growing hair. The brush works best for men and women with thinning hair who have a supply of miniaturized but active hair follicles.
